Kate Hudson Interview
The Skeleton Key
By New Weekly
American sweetheart Kate Hudson gets her thrills starring in horror flick The Skeleton Key. Here she chats to NW about hubby Chris Robinson and trying for baby number two.Do you believe in ghosts?
I do believe in ghosts. I’ve seen ghosts plenty of times. I’ve seen a ghost of a woman with no face and that was really creepy. But one time my grandmother came to me and I woke up and felt amazing that she was around me. I think there are people who are more susceptible than others to seeing or experiencing those kinds of things.
Do you think you were reincarnated?
Yeah. [Laughs]. I’ve been told my psychics that I have been.
Was it someone fabulous like Cleopatra?
Yes, that’s what I think! [Laughs]. No, I don’t know but I was definitely a man. My tendencies now are very masculine in terms of my personality.
Do you have a voodoo doll?
I have one of Chris [Robinson, Kate’s husband] when he’s being bad. [Laughs]. No, I’m not into voodoo dolls.
What do you love about Chris?
That he’s a good listener.
But he’s a rock star – does he even have hearing any more?
Sometimes I wonder! That’s the best question that I have had all day. [Laughs]. You know, I wish he would put in those ear monitors but he will not!
Where do you live these days?
On a bus, literally. Chris is on tour and we’re the kind of people who are gypsies – we love to travel and experience everything. I love being on the bus even if it’s some corn-fed Midwestern little town, we always find something inspiring about it.
Don’t you crave to be at home?
I get exhausted on the road and have moments when I want to be home. But that’s who I am and I’ll take the exhaustion for the sake of traveling. Then I get home and after a month of being domestic and cooking and baking and knitting, I’ll be ready to go and sit on a bus and listen to some rock music or make a movie. After a month I get stir crazy.
Were you a wild child growing up?
No. I was the kind of girl in high school when all kids went to an empty parking lot to get drunk, I was just not interested. That was so boring to me.
Was it because of the way you were raised?
Yes. Drinking in the house was not a big deal. When I was young and we had a great celebratory event, my parents wouldn’t leave us out. They would say, “Here is a little wine”, and we would toast with everybody. My parents were open about everything. Sex and drugs and all those things were just put out on the table. We didn’t feel we had to rebel.
So that is the way you will bring up your son, Ryder?
Yeah. Let’s see if it works the second time around. Maybe it will not. I am in a bit of a different situation because my husband has a drug history and he has been very open about his drug abuse. So I think I’ll just lay it on (Ryder) and he’ll probably say, “But daddy said …”. “Then you go talk to daddy and he can explain it to you.” I’m sure it will be a different process for us but honesty is the way to go.
Are looking forward to getting older?
I am in a way. I love being my age, 26. In my personal life, it would be nice to freeze it. But in terms of acting, I cannot wait to enter my adult phase of acting. Even though people go, “You seem so old for your age and seem like you have got everything together,” on film I look as if I am 12. (Although) that’s okay because when I am 35 I will be 35 but I will look young.
Are you looking forward for the next child?
Uh huh.
Will it be soon?
No. I’ve got to work.
So is Chris saying, "Go out and work and get some money?"
No. Chris wants babies, I’m the one who wants to work. I want to wait because there a few projects that I want to do.
Is there a time frame for the second child?
Kind of. We can’t wait too long. We don’t want to be selfish. But Chris is on the road and I am working and we are happy people. We will probably just one day be like, “Okay, let’s go!”
You’ve never been accused of being a diva to work with. Why do you think that is?
I’d rather sit on the back of the camera truck and have a beer with the boys than tell people what to do or tell people not to look at me. That’s just not me.
Apparently you were happy filming this movie because you had boobs…
Well, yeah, I was breast-feeding so I had breasts!
Do you miss them?
My boobs? Yes I really do!
You can always buy them.
Yes, I know you can. One day I’ll come and do an interview with you and I’ll have these big breasts. And how could you not say anything? That would be too funny!
