Australian model Michelle Leslie could face a Bali court as soon as next week to answer accusations she had two ecstasy pills in her handbag when arrested during a dance party drug sweep.

Prosecutors handed over an unusually-brief two-page indictment against the 24-year-old former underwear model to the Denpasar District Court, clearing the way for her trial to begin as soon as next week, sources close to the case said.

The file said the Adelaide-born Leslie "without any right, possessed, kept or brought psychotropic Group 1 drugs ... in pink tablets with 'AP' symbols, as many as two pills".

Leslie was arrested in August when Bali police allegedly found two tablets of the designer drug in her handbag during a sweep at a rave party in the hills near Kuta.

She faces a maximum 15-year sentence for drug possession.

But prosecutors have not ruled out using a lesser charge of receiving drugs, opening the door to a three-month sentence if Leslie can prove she was an addicted drug user receiving medical treatment.

Defence lawyers last week handed over a letter from a Sydney doctor claiming the Muslim convert, who occasionally wears an Islamic cover-all burqa, was being treated for attention deficit disorder with a drug named Ritalin.

Like ecstasy, Ritalin contains amphetamines and could account for positive blood tests taken from Leslie after her arrest.

A similar defence was earlier this year successfully used by an Adelaide man accused of using cannabis resin in Ubud in Bali, allowing him to walk free from jail after a lower-than-expected five months.

Leslie's lawyers are hopeful of a three-month sentence, which with time already spent in jail could mean she would walk free at the end of a month-long trial process. Her trial could begin as early as Monday.

Legal commentators have been surprised at the speedy passage of her case through the Indonesian courts, with one trial watcher describing it as "a record".
