Laura Bares Her Naked Ambition

Perky contestant Laura Kiddle in Channel Ten's dreamy Australian Princess is a romantic girl at heart. Her favourite fairytales are The Princess Bride, Sleeping Beauty and Pretty Woman. She dreams that her Prince Charming is well spoken and wears nice suits. Tasmanian-born Laura admires the isle's other famous export, Denmark's Princess Mary, for her beauty and poise.

Laura K (her TV name) has spiced up prime time. The former stripper/exotic dancer, also described benignly as a "commercial dancer" on the program's website, was plucked from 4000 applicants to make the final 14 and endure the jubilation and humiliation of princess school under the snooty eyes of judges Paul Burrell, Princess Di's former servant, Jane Ferguson, the sister of Sarah "Low-fat pork" Ferguson, and deportment doyenne Jean Broke-Smith.

Advised to use her powers of seduction for good instead of evil, Laura (below) survived elimination when others were sent packing but she was in tears when her skill in setting the table was likened to the artistry of a chimpanzee. Speaking of going bananas, Laura is livid that a naked photo shoot of her taken two years ago, under the name Layla, is being reprinted in The Picture magazine of Kerry Packer. "I'm disappointed they didn't ask if I minded the photos being used again," Laura told Diary. "They are using my celebrity status to put me on the cover and another nine pages. In the first shoot I only had three pages at the back."

Editor Ashley Gray relays in a media release from the aptly tactile Fingerprint Communications: "Lucky readers will be able to savour Laura's naked charms and watch Wednesday's episode of Australian Princess at the same time!" Packer's cross-promotion is mighty charitable given that the program screens on Ten. The mag purports to have a "revealing" interview with Laura but she told Diary: "They made it all up."

It's strangely ironic that the program's judges thought Laura showed the dexterity of a chimp in setting the table because the magazine shows her nude on a picnic blanket peeling a banana. Laura will pose for a lingerie shoot in FHM later this month but she won't be peeling anything off.
