Isla Fisher Steals The Show
All Eyes On Isla In Toronto
From Sydney Confidential
Heath Ledger didn't want a bar of it, Russell Crowe couldn't get enough of it but it was littler-known Aussie Isla Fisher who stole the show at the Toronto Film Festival at the weekend. The tiny West Australian redhead became a favourite among photographers and local fans, including one who posed as her fiance Sacha Baron Cohen's alter ego Ali G and followed her from one red carpet to another.
Fisher was in Toronto in support of Cohen who took to the red carpet as his other alter ego, Kazakhstani journalist Borat, riding into town on a carriage pulled by the strength of six peasant women.
He is promoting his awkwardly named mockumentary Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan, which Fisher described as the "funniest movie I've ever seen".
When asked if she preferred her man as Ali G or Borat, she said: "I've got to go with Borat."
The Aussie invasion also saw Ledger playing his favourite role - grumpy Hollywood star - once again refusing photos despite being there to promote the Aussie flick Candy.
Ironically, Candy is the film shot in Sydney early last year which earned Ledger a reputation as a grub among media after he spat and hurled obscene abuse at photographers.
But there was no such aggro from Woolloomooloo resident Russell Crowe, there to promote A Good Year.
Crowe made the most of the publicity, cruising the streets of Toronto with his traffic-stopping French co-star Marion Cotillard, signing autographs and chatting at length to his Canadian fans.
