Livinia Nixon Knows Her Limits

Nixon Knows Her Limits
By Vanessa Santer

Livinia NixonLivinia Nixon is as bubbly and sweet in real life as she is as the gown-wearing, girl-next-door on Temptation.

But though she's got the weather girl (she does Melbourne weather) hostess thing down pat, Nixon is anything but a girly girl who just looks nice.

"I said to (Temptation) producers, 'I'm not interested in just modelling a dress and I'm sure you expect me to be more than that'," Nixon said.

"And they agreed. Times have changed. I do voiceovers and questions and have a lot more involvement. I love sinking my teeth into something."

And that's not a throwaway line. Nixon majored in Chinese and marketing at university, loves scuba diving, skiing and travelling the world, and recently managed to complete a Graduate Diploma in Applied Science at Melbourne University while fulfilling her television commitments.

Nixon is passionate about what she does and sees her work as a sanctuary.

"I think for me if everything else is in life is getting down for me, work becomes my sanctuary. I can switch off and forget everything else," she said.

"Most of the time I'm happy and I spread the joy. But even if I'm not, at work I don't have to talk about personal things and I get to concentrate on what I'm doing, which is great. It can be a really good escape."

Television presenting seems to be a natural fit for the 31-year-old. She admits she's far too personal a character to have tried acting, where her good looks would have translated just as well.

"Acting scares me a bit. Revealing all those emotions is a bit close to the bone. I'm a personal person and I find that daunting and terrifying. I'd be useless as an actor," she said.

While the Channel 9 website says she has appeared on Halifax f.p. and Blue Heelers, Nixon is keen to clear things up.

"All I did was play a dead body and lie there," she said.

Talking to Nixon, she gives the impression she was made for presenting.

For many women the thought of donning a black-tie gown each night would be exhausting and intimidating.

"It (my beauty routine) hasn't changed since starting Temptation. I do yoga and walk the dog every day. And the dresses are always long, so they hide everything. But I don't put my face in the sun. I wear hats and 30-plus sunscreen and keep everything simple.

"If I don't have to wear make-up I don't. My best beauty secret is free. Go for a swim in the ocean. It clears up blemishes and makes you feel so good," she said.
