She swapped burqas for bikinis on his catwalk, but the relationship between jailbird Michelle Leslie and swimwear designer Michael Azzollini has apparently turned from ecstasy to agony.

The convicted Bali drug offender was given her first modelling job since her Indonesian arrest by her longtime friend, who defended his star clotheshorse in the media storm that followed his May showing.

Telling press "she's my muse and always has been", the Sydney designer was one of a few who rallied around the model and encouraged her return to the fashion industry fold.

But a new swimwear calendar by the designer will be launched this week - noticeably minus Leslie.

While a spokeswoman for Azzollini would not comment on the matter yesterday, insiders claim her exclusion hints at how public scrutiny has taken its toll on their friendship.
