Pop princess Avril Lavigne has big plans for her Australian tour.A world tour is months away, but Canadian pop singer Avril Lavigne cannot wait to get on the road. With a new album, Lavigne has the concert planned in minute detail and is hoping to bring the show to Australia next year.
While tour dates are yet to be confirmed, Lavigne will join British chart-topper James Morrison to perform at this year's Logie Awards on May 6.
"I'm a very visual person," Lavigne said.
"I'm not touring until 2008, but I already know what I'm going to do, which songs I'm going to cover, what my backdrops are going to look like and what colours I want."
It is going to be a "big bang" show with props, eight dancers and a bigger band than Lavigne has worked with previously.
"I'm taking it to the next level. I've never had girls (dancers) on stage with me. They're going to come down and we'll break out into cute little dance moves," she says.
Lavigne's third album, The Best Damn Thing, was released yesterday and has been a long time coming. Her latest hit is the catchy single Girlfriend.
For something different, she recorded the anthemic chorus in eight languages: English, Mandarin, Italian, German, Portuguese, French, Spanish and Japanese. She also tried Hindi, but it proved too difficult.
The album includes Lavigne's hit power ballad Keep Holding On, which featured in the soundtrack for the movie Eragon. There are plenty of upbeat songs, possibly inspired by Lavigne's contentment in her personal life.
Her last album, Under My Skin, was released in 2004, and all up she has sold more than 26 million albums worldwide.
She is happily married, and her husband, Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley, worked on the album. That is not to say Lavigne hasn't included any of her classic "boy-bashing" pop tunes; the songs just aren't about her this time.
"That is kind of the cool thing about this record overall, the songs aren't that literal for me this time round," she says.
"I have my boy-bashing songs on the record, but they're not serious - it is not what I'm going through. It is really playful and it is just things we all have either seen or experienced."
Working with her husband was a natural progression. Lavigne and Whibley were in the studio at the same time working on different projects.
Lavigne grew up in small-town Belleville, Ontario, but now lives in Hollywood. Fame came quickly with her first album, 2002's Let Go, garnering eight Grammy nominations.
Having spent the past five years in the public eye, Lavigne has had to get used to being photographed. On her 22nd birthday last September, she spat at a photographer, but later apologised publicly.
"You can control it to a certain extent," she says.
"I don't go to certain places if I know they're going to be there."
But she's grateful she doesn't have it as bad as some, throwing a small dig at troubled pop princess Britney Spears.
"I don't get it like she does," Lavigne says.
"She has paparazzi at her house every day. Then she does things that are crazy, so everyone talks about it."
Lavigne wants to be known for her artistic talents more than for her partying. She is also an actor, having voiced a character in last year's animated feature Over The Hedge. Lavigne says she has read many scripts, but won't be making any quick decisions.
"I can't do a Mandy Moore kind of movie, a chick flick . . . I have to do like a Girl Interrupted. I have to take my time and make the right choices," she says.
The Best Damn Thing and the first single Girlfriend are out now.
