Having decided blondes really do have more fun, a lighter Cameron Diaz walked the green carpet to screaming adulation from fans at the Sydney premiere of Shrek The Third.Squeezed into a beige-toned figure-hugging strapless Missoni dress, Diaz braved Sydney's cold snap alongside Dreamworks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg and the green ogre himself. She literally stopped traffic as she ran across Market St outside the State Theatre to greet fans.
Although this is the third time she has "starred" as the voice of Princess Fiona, Diaz insists she isn't a princess. "I never grew up wanting to be a princess," she told NEWS.com.au.
"I was more of a tomboy... I never really was a little girl who wanted to be a princess," Diaz laughed.
And the appeal of doing a film like Shrek? "I like being a part of something that has such integrity, that delivers a message as well as providing entertainment, that pushes the limits every time, particularly with technology. Every time they deliver something new and better than they did before, so just being a part of that is really wonderful."
Katzenberg credits Diaz for much of the Shrek franchise's success, saying she is a pleasure to work with. "Not only beautiful, she is also an incredibly talented actress and lots of fun too," he told NEWS.com.au.
When quizzed about her newly blonde locks, Diaz smiled that famous smile and let out a goofy laugh before responding, "Well, you know, I went in for highlights! And as we know, ladies, the science of hair colour... yeah... this is what happens!"
