Gold Coast beauty queen Erin McNaught says her role as a co-host of Channel 10's Cybershack and her recent signing as a cast member of Neighbours should finally distance her from being perceived as a glossy men's mag model.Erin is contracted to Neighbours for three months with an option to become a permanent figure on the long-running show.
Although she lives in Sydney, she'll commute to Melbourne when her shooting schedule for the soapie starts next month so she can remain close to her Sydney Rooster beau Braith Anasta.
"We've been slowly working in a direction away from the magazines," Erin told Qconfidential during her visit to Brisbane yesterday to promote Siemen's cordless phones.
"I auditioned for the show in August and I knew by late September I had the role.
"I start with them in late December and I think it will air in late February.
"People have perceived me as being in those magazines all the time, so hopefully they'll think differently of me now."
Erin's TV experience dates back a few years, having appeared in a couple of ads. One for DFO and the other with Ahn Do for Streets Cornetto.
Both ads returned to the small screen last year and were replayed for several months after she was named Australia's Miss Universe entrant. She also gained some notoriety around the same time for being featured in a trashy men's mag the same week of her crowning.
"I remember getting this payment from Dally's, who I was modelling for, and thinking 'What was this for?"' Erin said.
"Then I realised it was because they were replaying a DFO commercial."
Next week Erin heads to Macau for six days as a TV co-presenter for a major poker tournament.
"I love poker - Texas Hold 'em no limit," Erin said.
As for leaving Queensland to live in Sydney to further her career: "It's when I come back, like today, I realise how easy it is to live here and get around."
