She's shooting one of her weightiest roles to date in the US, but actress Rose Byrne may struggle to find the energy if her tiny frame is any indication.While she has always been a slim gal, Byrne prompted speculation she may be suffering an eating disorder after showing off little more than skin and bone at the FOX Network's Summer TCA party in Santa Monica yesterday.
Hitting the red carpet alongside veteran Hollywood star Glenn Close to spruik the second series of FX's legal drama Damages, Byrne's appearance was alarmingly lean - her backless halter-neck dress exposing her shoulder blade and ribcage in an unattractive fashion.
While Byrne's local representatives had no comment on the issue yesterday, it is understood a heavy filming schedule coupled with the difficulties of maintaining a long-distance relationship with fellow thespian Brendan Cowell has prompted her sudden and rapid weight loss.
While very much together, the duo have been living separate lives of late - Byrne is based in New York while Cowell has been giving his all in the Sydney Theatre Company's production of Hamlet.
Delivering on intense storylines involving her Damages character Ellen Parsons in the second series of the small-screen thriller may have taken their toll on the star.
In the role, Byrnes is required to morph into an ambitious lawyer who is enmeshed in a web of deceit under the instruction of a relentless litigator.
